Asian tech giants invest $2.5 billion in taxi-hailing service Grab

Uber’s South East Asian competitor Grab has raised $2 billion (£1.5bn) from Japanese technology giant Softbank and its China-based equivalent Didi Chuxing.

Grab is expected to raise an additional amount of $500 million (£385m) from some other tech investors before the ongoing round of funding is closed, which would bring the total investment amount for the round to $2.5 billion (£1.9bn).

Struggling Malaysian Airlines (MAS) revealed on Friday that it is suspending trading in its shares. The news came out before an announcement was made later in the day on restructuring plan to enable the carrier remain afloat following two devastating air tragedies.

State investment fund Khazanah Nasional, owner of 70% of Malaysia Airlines, made the announcement for plans of delisting and taking the airline private. Now, it is expected that the plans pertinent to reforms will be announced during a press briefing at 3.00pm.

Contract To search for MH370 given to Dutch company Fugro

On Monday, Australia gave the contract to search the floor of the Indian Ocean for the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 to a Dutch company, Fugro Survey Pty. The plane went missing on March 8 and it is hoped that it may take another year to find it.

Fugro will use two vessels equipped with sonar scanners, multi-beam echo sounders and underwater cameras to search the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight, Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss told reporters in Canberra.
