Hong Kong Exports Decline Marginally

After posting impressive growth in exports for the last 5 months, Hong Kong has reported decline of 0.4 percent decline in exports in January. The imports were also lower and resulted in decline in the trade deficit.

Compared to yearly basis, the imports were down by 2.7 percent in January. During December 2013, imports were higher by 1.8 percent.

2nd Case of H7N9 Bird Flu in Hong Kong

A second case of the deadly H7N9 bird flu has been confirmed by Hong Kong. Authorities said on Friday night that only a few days after the first case was indentified in the country, the second case has emerged, because the virus has been spreading beyond mainland China.

Presently, the victim from the neighboring Chinese city of Shenzhen is in hospital. According to doctors in Tuen Mun on the outskirts of Hong Kong, the condition of the man is stable. It has been planned to soon transfer the man to an isolation facility.

Poultry checking has increased in Hong Kong after reports of bird flu

On Thursday, health authorities have stated that they have increased poultry checks which are coming from the Chinese mainland and also at farms and markets of the region after they received reports from the government of one confirmed bird flu case.

According to one of the top health officers of the region the risk of contracting bird flu will not go up, a woman had been detected with a variation of the disease and been hospitalized.

In 1997 the first outbreak of bird flu happened among human beings which had claimed as many as six lives.
