France Asks EU to Have Stringent Medical Device Authorization Laws

France would not leave the faulty breast implant issue until it gets assured that the incident would not be repeated. The France’s Minister of Health, Xavier Bertrand, has asked the European Union to take out measures to strengthen medical devices authorization.

Such rules should be at par with rules of prescription drugs. Their country name is involved, as the faulty breast implant scandal was due to a French company, named Poly Implant Prothèse. This company used non-medical grade silicone that is being used for industrial purposes.

With the intent of introducing high-speed Internet links to West African nations, France Telecom on Wednesday revealed an innovative plan. As per the scheme, a fibre-optic cable reaching South Africa from France will go online by the mid of 2012.

As per the statement released by France Telecom, which chairs the 17-member consortium working on the revolutionary project, the 10,500-mile (17,000km) underwater from Africa Coast to Europe (ACE) cable was initially scheduled to instigate during the early phase of next year.
