According to a new batch of tests carried out by Consumer Reports (CR), the fully redesigned 2016 Toyota Prius hybrid hatchback -- which was unveiled in late 2015 -- is the most fuel-efficient vehicle ever tested by the group.

The highly positive endorsement of the Prius' by CR on the basis of fuel economy is based on the group's testing of a mid-trim Prius Three model. The model tested by CR has bagged the same rating from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as all other Prius models, except a high-efficiency 56 miles per gallon (mpg) 'Eco Two' trim.

Clemson graduates team up with Toyota to create uBox multi-purpose vehicle

At the SAE World Congress at Cobo Center on Tuesday, Clemson University's International Center for Automotive Research unveiled the uBox concept vehicle, which has been created in collaboration with bigwig automaker Toyota.

The uBox concept vehicle -- which will be on display in the Cobo atrium through Thursday -- has been designed by a group of engineering graduates of Clemson University as part of the University's ongoing Deep Orange project. The uBox is the sixth car in the series; and its development process lasted two years.

Toyota Motor has issued recall for more than 1.9 million hybrid Prius cars due to software issue which reportedly slows down the vehicle or brings it to halt in certain cases. Toyota spokesperson Brian Lyons confirmed that the Japanese automobile giant has recalled vehicles manufactured after March 2009.

Toyota Prius is one the largest selling eco-friendly cars in the world. The company said that for safety of consumers, it will recall more than half of Prius cars sold worldwide. No accidents have been reported so far due to the software glitch.

Johan Van Zyl, the CEO and President of Toyota came out in public about the largest investment they are about to make in South Africa till date. Approximately R 363 million is scheduled to be invested in a warehouse to be set up in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng. The warehouse would supply new parts. Toyota which has a manufacturing plant set up in Durban, had invested R 5 million in the last 5 years. This project is expected to back up that investment.
